Leyla-Nour Benouniche is a Franco-Algerian researcher, facilitator and audio-visual artist who grew up between Maryland suburbia and Paris. Their work uses memory and remix as methodologies to accessibly translate and order their discoveries. Benouniche has been developing their queer anti-colonial mediation through modular sets and digital tools based off of North African conversational safe spaces, such as; hammams, qa’adas, and terraces. Benouniche is the director and producer at Ya Yemma, and was an artist-in-residence at (A)WAKE. During their residency, Benouniche created the pilot of a 5-part video series combining animation and live-action. The show is grounded in mental health research and introduces several topics for young people to learn and practice caring for their emotional stability.
